Practical Course M: Nuclear Magnetic Resonance

The experiment allows to demonstrate the nuclear spin of protons in a sample of glycerol using relatively simple methods. NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) absorption signals are observed in a small permanent magnet producing a field of approximately 500 Gauss. Observing the beat frequency between the spin detector and the Larmor frequency of the spin system after excitation with short high-frequency pulses, the transverse and longitudinal relaxation are measured employing different pulse sequences.

Prerequisite for this experiment is the knowledge of quantum mechanics.
