The conference has focussed on the structure and processes in molecular clouds and on the general interstellar medium ranging from star formation in the early universe to the composition of the ISM in our neighborhood.

We would like to thank all participants contributing to the sucess of this conference through interesting talks and stimulating discussions. We also thank all members of the scientific organizing committee for their work.

Zermatt Conferences on the interstellar medium are held since 1988 in regular 5 years intervals, the last one 1998. This conference has been organized by the KOSMA group of the Universität zu Köln in collaboration with the Max Planck Institut für Radioastronomie and the Radioastronomisches Institut der Universität Bonn. We acknowledge support by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) through grant SFB 494 and by the Stiftung Hochalpine Forschungsstationen Jungfraujoch & Gornergrat, Bern.
