The project aims at analysing the earliest stages of massive stars. The goal is to establish an evolutionary sequence for the formation of a massive star (cluster). Much progress was made in finding so-called high-mass protostellar objects (HMPOs) and in determining the physical conditions of HMPOs and hot cores. Programs to search for even earlier phases, massive cold cores, were initiated and new candidates were found. We will continue these searches systematically and study these intriguing objects with high angular resolution to determine the initial core mass function in the earliest phase of the fragmentation process and reveal the internal workings of massive pre/protocluster cores.
