Experiments with Cold Ions Using 22-Pole Ion Traps

Printer-friendly versionPDF version

Our laboratory has several low-temperature 22-pole trapping machines, in which ions can be stored and investigated in a temperature range from room temperature down to 10K (LIRTRAP) and 4K (COLTRAP). These setups are capable of measuring ion-neutral reactions, as well as recording high-resolution spectra of the stored parent ions. As the number of stored ions is usually small (in the range of several thousand), the method of Laser Induced Reactions (LIR) is used for spectroscopy. LIR is capable of recording electronic, rovibrational, as well pure rotational spectra.
